Our Department has a strong focus in the Neurosciences
Our Department has a strong focus in the Neurosciences, which spans cellular molecular, organizational and behavioral approaches. Our interests range, for example, from molecular biology of ion channels to cellular, molecular motors and the regulation of axonal transport, to molecular and sensory physiology, to aging in the brain, to imaging of brain function, and hormone effects on behavior. Our Graduate Program is designed to prepare students for the challenges facing all Neuroscientists and Cell Biologists as we seek to understand the basic mechanisms of neuronal and cellular function. The goal is to develop an understanding to the normal and disease states that can lead to therapeutic strategies for disease states, including neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s Disease), psychiatric disorders and deafness.
